Biography
Bill dedicated nearly 50 years of his life to coaching eight-man football. From 1971 to 2018, he mentored countless players while making stops at Monroe, Lynch, Spencer-Naper, Newman Grove, and Lindsay Holy Family High Schools. Known for coaching sound fundamentals and strong conditioning, his teams appeared in 16 State Playoffs (including 3 semi-finals). One of Coach Mimick’s many career highlights included his undefeated Spencer-Naper Pirates winning the 1988 Class D-1 State Championship. Over the years, he coached in both the 1985 and 1987 Eight-Man All Star Games. Bill has also had 23 of his athletes selected to play in the All-Star Game (including both of his sons, Tom and Jeff). He also played (1966) and later coached (2007) in the Nebraska Shrine Bowl. Bill was the Head Coach of the Nebraska vs. Kansas Eight-Man All Star Game in 2008 and an assistant in The Northeast Nebraska All-Star Game in 2013. His career record stands at 233 wins, 161 losses, and 2 ties—but he is most proud of the relationships that he has developed with his players, assistant coaches, game officials, and opposing players and coaches throughout his storied career. Coach Mimick was awarded the NSAA “Distinguished Service to Football Award” and has been inducted into The Scotus High School Athletic Hall of Fame. The NEMFCA is honored to welcome Bill and his sons into the Eight Man Football Hall of Fame as our 2018 Family Legacy.
