Biography

Jack coached football at Wheatland High School from 1969 to 1981 and his teams qualified for the state playoffs in 1976, 1977, 1979, 1980, and 1981. They won the state title in 1976 in the first overtime championship game in Nebraska History and then went on to win another title in 1981 when his son Brice played quarterback for him. Coach Sunderland’s Wheatland teams still hold the all-class state record for most undefeated seasons with 9 total and his career record stands at 111 wins, 20 losses, and 1 tie. In 1978, he was selected as the West Head Coach for the very first Eight Man All-Star Game (an honor reserved for coaches of the highest regard at the time). The NEMFCA is honored to welcome him into the Eight Man Football Hall of Fame Class of 2017.
