Biography
Among the top offensive lineman to ever play the game, Dean’s standout career began as an eight-man football player for the Jets in 1978. In high school, he was selected both 1st Team All-Conference and 1st Team All-State as a fullback and linebacker. After graduation, Dean received a scholarship to play at the University of Nebraska, where he went on to become a Husker Legend. As a senior, he helped create holes for the 1983 Heisman trophy winner on his way to being honored as both the Lombardi and Outland Trophy winner. He was named to nearly every All-American list in the country, and his No.71 jersey was later retired at Nebraska. It is believed that his hometown of Burr, Nebraska is the smallest town to ever produce a consensus All-American and 1st round NFL draft pick. Dean was drafted #2 overall by the Houston Oilers in 1984 (the highest-drafted Husker lineman ever) and he went on to have a successful 8-year NFL playing career. Since retiring in 1991, Dean has been named to the Sports Illustrated and Walter Camp All-Century Teams, the Nebraska Sports Hall of Fame, and the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame. The NEMFCA is honored to add to his decorated career by welcoming him into the Eight Man Football Hall of Fame Class of 2018.
