Biography

LaVane was a player ahead of his time during Eagle’s undefeated 1959 football season. In his senior year, he set a single-season state record at the time with 218 points scored. In just 9 games, he scored 33 TD’s, made 20 conversions, and carried the ball 159 times for 1,848 yards (averaging over 11 yards per carry). LaVane also amassed 303 yards passing, 115 unassisted tackles, and averaged 35 yards per punt. He earned 1st Team All-State honors in both the Omaha World Herald and the Lincoln Journal Star. He was cited as the best Eight-Man player of the 1959 season and was also selected as one of Nebraska’sAll-ClassTop10Athletes. Inthesummerof1960,LaVanewas selected to play in the Nebraska Shrine Bowl and also received a football scholarship to the University of Nebraska. The NEMFCA is honored to welcome him into the Eight Man Football Hall of Fame Class of 2018.
